Lolabel Lathrop

Lolabel Louise Lathrop, age 81, of Holland, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside, Sunday morning, October 20, 2013, at Astor House Assisted Living Community. She was born September 1, 1932 in Neapolis, Ohio to the late Edward W. and Dessie (Rauch) Shoemaker. She was raised in Monclova, Ohio, and her favorite pastime was swimming in the Quarry.

Lolabel was a homemaker the majority of her life raising five children, however, worked as a waitress and cook at several area restaurants. She knew no stranger, and was a very sociable and likable person who always looked out for others well being. She was a collector of red birds and her favorite flowers were pansies.

Lolabel’s family was her pride and joy. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dessie Shoemaker of Toledo, OH; Linda (De) Flores of Swanton, OH, Cathleen “Star” Thornburgh of White Pigeon, MI, Regina “Billie” (John) Szczepanski of Archbold, OH, and Jerome “Joe” (Heather) Lathrop of Berkey, OH; their father, Reginald L. Lathrop of Berkey, OH; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; special friend, Richard Tussing of Holland, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Lolabel was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jeffrey; 1 sister and 3 brothers.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, October 24th from 2 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631), where funeral services will be held Friday, October 25th at 11:00 am with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Ford Cemetery in Berkey.

Memorial contributions may be made to Astor House Activities Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

A heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Astor House, especially Emily, Mary, Gail, Carrie, and Debbie for the extra special care given to our mom.
