Lois R. Yunker

Lois R. Yunker, age 89, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2014. She was born December 30, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Frank and Ruth (Meisner) Pohlman. Lois was a 1942 graduate of Libbey High School, and on June 6, 1942 married her beloved husband, Harold Yunker. Together they raised fourteen children.

Lois was a charter member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swanton. In her early years, as you can imagine, her children were first priority. Her morning routine, before everyone was awake, was to pack their school lunches and line them up on the counter, and furthermore, even had the time to bake cakes to add in them as a special treat. Lois will be remembered as a wonderful cook. She canned vegetables and was well known for her rice pudding and sticky buns. In her later years, at the age of 63, she obtained her driver's license. She stayed active sewing wedding dresses and working as a poll worker for the Board of Elections. Most recently, Lois was honored by being presented a varsity letter from Swanton High School for attending 27 consecutive years of parents night or athletic events at the school.

Lois will be greatly missed by her children, Janice Schlade, Ruth Ann (Roger) Schlade, Harold (Kathy) Yunker, Howard Yunker, John (Nancy) Yunker, Terry (Linda) Yunker, Kathy (John) Warkentin, Barb Cooper, Marty (Dick) Perkins, Jill (Craig) Corlett, Karl (Julie) Yunker, Chris (Angela) Yunker, Rick (Denise) Yunker, and Paul (Michele) Yunker; 41 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; brothers, Chuck (Pat) Pohlman and William Pohlman; and sister-in-law, Florence Pohlman.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brothers, Frank and Jack Pohlman, grandsons, Kurt and Derek; son-in-law, David Schlade; and daughters-in-law, Sheryl Yunker and Jeri Yunker.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 3rd, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 200 Dodge St. in Swanton, where visitation will be one hour prior. Pastor Ed Strietelmeier will officiate.

Following a luncheon, graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church - Building Fund.

Thank you to the nurses and staff at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center for their kindness and care to mom for the past 2-1/2 years.
