Lloyd Eugene Hinkle

Lloyd Eugene Hinkle, of Lyons, Ohio, passed from this life Tuesday evening, August 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at Grand Court in Adrian, Michigan, at the age of 84 years. He was born October 16, 1927 in Lyons, Ohio to Lloyd E. and Willa Rose (Barnes) Hinkle. Lloyd enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan serving as a surgical tech in the Med Corp. On December 14, 1945, he married his beloved wife, Gladys Hambrook. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2011. Lloyd worked for the American Chain & Cable Company, where he was a longtime general foreman, retiring on June 1, 1980.

For 27 years, Lloyd and Gladys enjoyed spending the winter months at their Tavares, Florida home. He served as president of the association at the mobile home park and was known as an overall handyman - he loved serving others no matter what the task. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards, listening and singing to country western and gospel music.

Lloyd was a member of Lyons Christian Church, Lyons Volunteer Fire Department, Lyons VFW Post #7574, and Wauseon Elks Lodge.

Lloyd was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and enjoyed teasing them as well as the staff at Grand Court, and will be remembered as a jokester, right up until the end. Lloyd is survived by his children, Sandy (Terry) Stites of Wauseon, Linda Leahy of Metamora, and Gary (Melanie) of Lyons; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Rosie Irwin of Luna Pier, MI and Francis (Keith) Bennington of Lima, OH.

Besides his loving wife Gladys of 66 years, Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeremy Leahy; and siblings, Richard Hinkle and Joanne Perry.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 9th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St in Metamora, where a VFW service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Fireman’s Last Alarm service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, August 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lyons Christian Church, 138 E. Morenci St., Lyons, Ohio, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Laura Saunders officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Lyons Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Grand Court Activities Department or Lyons Christian Church.
