Leo Francis Zawodni, Jr., age 76, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Wednesday, September 15, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born January 22, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to Leo Francis, Sr. and Angeline (Russert) Zawodni. Leo was a 1952 graduate of Macomber High School. On October 8, 1955, he married Carol Jones. Leo worked in the paint booth at the Jeep Corporation until his retirement on August 11, 1994.

Leo was a parishioner at the former St. Agnes Catholic Parish in Toledo, where he served as Eucharistic minister. He was also very active in the Knights of Columbus, dart ball church league, served as past-treasurer of the Holy Name Society, and coached CYO football and girls basketball. He and Carol most recently joined St. Richard Catholic Parish in Swanton. He loved boating and fishing on Lake Erie; and up until his illness, belonged to several bowling leagues over the years. He looked forward to his monthly Saturday morning breakfast reunions with his Macomber classmates. Leo was a very sociable and friendly person who could make friends with anyone.

Leo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol; children, Dennis Zawodni, Deborah (Larry) Brashear, and Dan (Teresa) Zawodni; grandchildren, Nicholas Brashear, Alicia (Brad) Young, Patricia (David) Veres, Christina Brashear, Samantha Hamby, Zack, Zeth, and Zoie Zawodni; 3 great-granchildren, Violet, Doren, and Kira Brashear; sister, Annette Gillman; half sister, Michaeline Alexander; and 3 nieces.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; infant granddaughter, Heaven Leigh and brother-in-law, George Gillman.

Friends and family may visit Friday, September 17th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631), where services will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m.. Deacon Timothy Worline will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus.
