Lawrence J. Hilton

June 24, 1959 — August 31, 2013

Lawrence (Larry) J. Hilton, age 54, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013, as a result from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while on his way to work. He was born on June 24, 1959 to Carolyn (Scherzer) and Earl “Stan” Hilton in Swanton, Ohio. Larry married the love of his life, Debbie George, on June 29, 1985. Larry graduated in 1977 from Swanton High School and Penta County Vocational School specializing in small engine repair. He was employed as a mechanic and supervisor in the Motor Vehicle Department at the University of Toledo for over 25 years. Larry was a member of CWA Local 4319. He helped others all of his life at a moment’s notice, taking apart and fixing anything with a motor and fashioning hand- made tools if none were available.

First and foremost Larry was a devoted family man, teaching his daughter and sons countless life lessons. Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and boating. But most of all Larry enjoyed taking to the open road on his Harley with his wife Deb and special group of cherished friends Jim, Peg, Jeff, Charlene, Rick and Carol also known as the Rattlers. Together they logged thousands of miles and countless memories. Prior to his death, and fulfilling his lifelong dream, his final road trip was to Sturgis with his friend, Colin Wood. Larry selflessly gave to others with his final gift being the donation of his organs to others.

Larry is survived by his mother, Carolyn; loving wife Deb; daughter, Kristi and son-in-law Colin Freeman; sons, Paul (Lisa Scott) Hilton and Dan Hilton; siblings, Marla (Mark) Mears, Jan (Kevin) Stong, John (Christy) Hilton, and Tony (Maria) Hilton; as well as many cherished extended family members.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Earl “Stan” Hilton.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Spetka, the nursing staff at the Neuro Critical Care Unit at Toledo Hospital especially Karen, Mary and Lisa for their loving compassionate care. Many thanks for the respectful, compassionate care of Life Connections in particular Candy and Paul.
