Kenneth S. Smith, at age 94, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Swanton Health Care for Assisted Living.

He was born May 28, 1913, in Swanton, Ohio, the son of William and Margaret Smith. He was united in marriage to Frances Baker on August 11, 1943. Preceding him in death this past fall, she was his loving helpmate through his farming years, and they had proudly celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last summer.

Mr. Smith was a farmer all his life until he retired at age 82. In addition, he worked as a compliance supervisor for the Fulton County ASCS for 25 years. He was a longstanding member of Lytton United Church of Christ, serving on council at various times during his life. He also served two years on the Fulton Local School board, 8 years on the Fulton County Regional Planning Commission, and 16 years as a Fulton County Trustee. He was a 4-H club advisor for 10 years and for several years was a volunteer member of the local Boy Scout advisory committee. He was a sports enthusiast and long-time fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Until his ill health and loss of sight made it impossible, he regularly attended Evergreen High School basketball games, and later enjoyed listening to county basketball games on the radio. His hobbies included gardening, playing cards and bowling.

He was a dedicated husband and caring father, who was very proud of his children’s achievements. He is survived by sons, Richard (Phyllis), of Findlay, Ohio; Steven (Alice), of Swanton, Ohio; Jeffrey (Angie), of Waterville, Ohio; and daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Short, of Wapakoneta, Ohio. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may visit Sunday, April 13th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14th at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Mary Burroughs officiating. Interment will follow at Dutch Ridge Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Lytton United Church of Christ, 12910 Co. Rd. 5, Delta, Ohio 43515.
