Karen Sue Ellis

Karen Sue Ellis, age 58, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side Saturday afternoon, December 15, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born October 4, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio to Donald Raab and Agnes (Junk) Mull. Karen married her loving husband, Melvin Ellis on May 27, 1978.

Karen was a dedicated member of St. Patrick Providence Parish (Grand Rapids), where she served as a past church council member. In 2005, she earned her Associate's Degree in Business from Owens Community College. Karen enjoyed reading, water aerobics, and the companionship of her dog, Rascal. As a young adult, Karen enjoyed showing Shelties. She dedicated her life to caring for others, both at Sunshine, Inc, and later for her mom and stepfather. Karen treasured her time with her family, especially her grandsons.

Left to cherish Karen's memory is her beloved husband of 34 years, Melvin; mother and stepfather, Agnes and Robert Mull; daughters, Teresa Ellis, Nicole (Michael) Bearss, and Jacqueline Ellis; grandsons, Dean and Zachary; siblings, Richard (Kathy) Raab, Bonnie Ochs, Diane Hobling, and Randy (Pam) Raab; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Donald Raab; and brother, Ronald Raab.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 19th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Visitation will continue Thursday, December 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Providence Church in Grand Rapids, Ohio, where A Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. David Tscherne officiating. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
