Julius Gombash, Jr., age 87, of Swanton, Ohio, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital emergency room. He was born May 5, 1921, in Swanton, Ohio, to Julius and Mary (Zinscak) Gombash. He graduated from Ai School in 1939. On April 18, 1953, Julius married his beloved wife of 47 years, Delores Burkhardt. He is now reunited with her in Heaven. He has missed her dearly since her death on January 28, 2000.
Julius farmed his entire life. In his later years, he loved getting on a tractor and helping his sons on the farm whenever he could. He enjoyed playing cards, and spent many hours playing solitaire with his grandson, Max. He also enjoyed time spent at his son’s restaurant with family and friends, and with his good friend, Maynard Habel and brother-in-law Bill.
Julius is survived by his children, Jeri (Terry) Szabo, Jim Gombash (Ardis Bauman), Julius (Peggy) Gombash, Michael (Monique) Gombash, Betty Stacey and Grace (Jeff) Householder; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; brother, Eugene (Lois) Gombash; brother-in-law, William Burkhardt and sister-in-law, Helen Burkhardt.
Besides his wife, Delores, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joe and James, granddaughter, Chelsea; grandson, Rob Weemes, and son-in-law, Ron Stacey.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, December 14th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a scripture service led by Rev. Brian Haller will be held at 7:30 p.m. Prayers will begin in the funeral home Monday, December 15th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church. Fr. Thomas Leyland will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
