Joyce Alice Pope, age 72, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. She was born July 12, 1939 to Walter C. and Edna (Spangler) Shufelt at her maternal grandparent’s farm in Westhope, Ohio. Joyce was the eldest of their six children and is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Eddie Buck of Brooksville, FL; son, Carl D. Pope, Jr. of Metamora, OH; siblings, Bert (Patricia) Shufelt, Marie Quint, Marian (Jim) Leonard, Marilyn (Frank) Bremer and Clare Shufelt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joyce worked for the Evergreen School System from 1972-2009. She worked many different jobs during those 37 years and enjoyed the friendship of all of her colleagues. Most of all, Joyce really enjoyed the children and being part of their lives. She also had several part time jobs – babysitting, housecleaning and looking after others.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Services will be private with entombment at Toledo Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace.

In lieu of flowers, it is Joyce’s last wish that donations be made to The Toledo Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, OH 43537.
