Josephine Emma Harriet Long, age 99, of Waterville, Ohio, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Kingston Residence of Sylvania. Born on February 5, 1925, in Holland, Ohio to Harry E. and Eva E. (Reed) Lewis, Josephine lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of many through her kindness, creativity, and dedication to her community.
Josephine married Clarence Long, Jr. on December 13, 1969. He preceded her in death in July of 2003. Josephine worked as a clerk and store detective for Titke Department Store, where her attention to detail and strong sense of integrity were greatly valued by both her employers and customers alike. Beyond her professional career, Josephine's passions extended into the arts; she was a talented water painter and shared her love for music by playing the organ, piano, and violin. Throughout her life, she brought joy to nursing home residents by entertaining them with her musical talents.
As a member of the Opera Guild in Toledo for many years, Josephine devoted herself to the arts, enriching the cultural landscape of her community. She was also an active participant in the Waterville Historical Society, where she contributed her enthusiasm and knowledge about local history. Her generosity extended to Wgte Public Radio in Toledo, showcasing her commitment to supporting the arts and public service. Additionally, Josephine was involved with the Whitehouse American Legion Post 384 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son Larry Black, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who cherished her deeply. Josephine is also survived by her brother, Harry D. Lewis; her sisters, Pauline M. Tarr and Eleanor A. Brooks; and many nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Besides her beloved husband of 34 years, Clarence, Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Garry M. Black; her brother, Ivan F. Lewis; and her sisters, Marjory E.M. Peters, Flossie W. Taube, and Crystal Hardy.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 31st from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Bruce Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
