John Alan Guthrie, age 46, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at The University of Toledo Medical Center, following a brain aneurysm.

He was born December 18, 1963 in Toledo, Ohio to Grady and Beatrice (Jurski) Guthrie. John was a shop foreman for B & L Frame & Axle in Westland, Michigan.

John was an avid motorcyclist, who enjoyed attending bike events, especially October Fest Bike Week. He loved grilling outdoors with family and friends, charter fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, and attending the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500 car racing events. He enjoyed living in Florida the past 12 years, before moving back to Ohio 2 years ago. John was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post #320 in Maumee.

He is survived by his loving mother, Beatrice A. Guthrie; wife, Tammy; brothers, Grady, Jr. (Sandra) Guthrie of Ruskin, FL, Edward (Amy) Guthrie of Holland, sisters, Judi (Harold) Rieger of Swanton, Patricia (Bill) Dick of Waterville, Delores (Butch) Garling of Swanton, Carolyn (Gowing) of Swanton, and Barb (Rick) Smith of Delta, special daughter, Chelc Muir of Delta, and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, Grady and brother-in-law, James Gowing.

Friends and family may visit Friday, June 4th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton, where a Sons of American Legion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.. Prayers will begin in the Funeral Home on Saturday, June 5th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. Richard Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Phil Feltman officiating. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family or St. Richard Catholic Church.
