John H. Dowling, age 78, of Swanton, Ohio, died Christmas Day, December 25, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born April 6, 1930 in Swanton to the late Walter and Rosella (Kreuz) Dowling. John attended St. Mary’s School in Assumption and graduated from Fulton High School in 1948. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran serving in Germany from 1951 to 1953. John attended the University of Toledo and was employed at Champion Spark Plug, Kaufman Concrete, and retired in September of 1980 from Scholz Homes, due to disability. He entered the nursing home in May of 1982.
John was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. He also was a member of Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption and Lyons VFW Post #7574.
John is survived by his sister, Marian Onweller; brothers, Robert (Roxie) Dowling, Wayne Dowling and W. Thomas Dowling; 7 nephews; 5 nieces and many cousins.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, December 28th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Resurrection will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption, where visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MS Society, Holy Trinity Building fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
