Interment with Military Rites: Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery

Jerry Pokornik, age 93, of Lyons, Ohio, entered through the Gates of Heaven, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. He was born December 16, 1919 in Ogden Township, Michigan to Frank and Christina (Kaser) Pokornik. Jerry served in the United States Army-Air Corp during WWII and was stationed in Guam. Later he served as an aircraft mechanic instructor in California. On November 30, 1946, he married his beloved wife, Anna Holubik. She preceded him in death on January 27, 1999.

Jerry was a life-long farmer and was proud of his Czech heritage. He looked forward to Polka weekends at the Czech Dance Club in Seward, where he enjoyed great food and entertainment.

Jerry attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lyons. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau and enjoyed attending the annual Fulton County Fair and Threshers Convention.

Left to cherish Jerry’s memory is his daughter, Sharon (Denny) Blaisdell of Monclova, OH; son, Gary (Jane) Pokornik of Sylvania, OH; step-grandchildren, Teresa (Gary) and Sonja; 5 step-great-grandchildren; as well as 2 nieces, Barbara and Shirley.

Besides his wife, Anna, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank, Jr.; and sisters, Anna and Elizabeth.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. Visitation will continue Wednesday, March 20th from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery in Lyons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyons Volunteer Fire & Rescue or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
