Jerry S. Pinkava, 87, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Saturday afternoon, November 10, 2012, at his home. He was born March 28, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph and Anna (Holubik) Pinkava. Jerry was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and recipient of two Purple Hearts. On May 21, 1949, he married the love of his life, Mildred Raufeisen. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2010.
Jerry worked over 40 years as a maintenance engineer at Toledo Express Airport. He was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish, charter member of the Swanton Elks, Swanton American Legion Post #479, and the American Czech & Slovak Dance Club. Jerry was known as an all around handyman who could fix anything in his own unique way. He enjoyed feeding the birds and watching war movies.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Sandra; son, Jerry M. (Joanne) Pinkava of Swanton, OH; grandchildren, Michael Pinkava, Mary (Chris) Zenz, Jerad (Vicki) Pinkava, and Melissa Pinkava; great-grandson, Robert Pinkava; brother, Stanley (Eileen) Pinkava; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Millie, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph and Frank; and sisters, Mary, Agnes, and Lois.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at South Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Swanton Fire & Rescue.
