Jeanne Bratton

June 6, 1924 — October 9, 2011

Calling Hours: Thursday, October 13th from 2 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton

Jeanne (Davidson) Bratton, age 87, of rural Delta, passed away Sunday October 9, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 6, 1924 to Charles W. and M. Ethel (Brown) Davidson.

She was a 1942 graduate of Swanton High School, and began working at the Swanton Enterprise in June of that year, learning the entire printing business on the job, operating the linotype, job presses, and making up the jobs and newspaper pages. She remained there eight years, retiring when she married Norman W. Bratton Sr., a farmer, on October 1, 1950. They had two children, Norman Bratton, Jr. and Diana L. (Bratton) Figy.

In 1958 she was called at times by area newspapers to help them because their linotype operators were sick or on vacation. She did this for the Delta Atlas in 1960 and continued to help them part time every week until 2004, when she retired for good.

Jeanne was a member of Faithful Temple # 250, Pythians Sisters of Swanton since 1948, serving as secretary for many years. She had also been secretary of the State of Ohio Grand Trustees for Pythian Sisters for 24 years, helping to govern the two Pythian Sisters Homes in Medina, Ohio.

She was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton; Delta Community Garden Club; Fulton County Genealogy Society; Fulton County Historical Society; and Fulton County Farm Bureau, where she and Norman served as Advisors of the Youth Council for 20 years.

Jeanne was a big collector of folding and other fans, postcards, and scrapbooks since high school (a veritable history of the area).

Surviving are her son, Norman W. (Vicky) Bratton, Jr.; grandsons, Landon, Christopher and Nicholas (Rebekah) Bratton, Kent (Laurie) and Weston Figy; step-grandson, Michael Figy; great-grandchildren, Kendra N. Weiser, Dane R. and Tate R. Figy, Skyler and Webb Figy, Layni Allport, Trenton and Ashlyn Figy.

Preceding her in death were her father, mother, stepmother, husband and daughter; sister, Kathryn (Paul) Moline, brothers, Private Robert S. Davidson, infants, Edgar and Gerald Davidson, step-grandson, Wil Figy.

Friends and family may visit Thursday, October 13th, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Pythian Sisters service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14th, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 N. Main St. in Swanton, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Barbara Jean Pope will officiate. Interment will follow at Fulton Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hospice of Fulton & Williams Co., 230 Westfield Dr., Archbold, OH 43502, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
