James E. Shambarger

March 8, 1920 — June 14, 2015

James Edward Shambarger, age 95, of Jasper, Michigan, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, June 14, 2015 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was born March 8, 1920 in Lyons, Ohio to Arthur and LaVerne (Griesinger) Shambarger. On August 8, 1948, he married Betty Jane Snyder, and she preceded him in death on September 1, 2011. Jim was a farmer all his life, and worked 20 years at Tecumseh Products.

In his early years, as a hobby, Jim and his brother purchased a Piper Cub to learn to fly. Jim reportedly only had a student’s permit, but flew anywhere someone wanted to go. Jim flew as far as Florida.

Jim is survived by his sons, Robert (Linda) Shambarger of Bryan, OH and Richard (Anna Lee) Shambarger of Crosswell, MI; grandchildren, Megan (Justin) Klinger of Warsaw, IN and Merit Shambarger of Lodi, OH; 2 great-grandchildren, Addison and Layton Williams; and brother, Charles Shambarger of Lyons, OH.

Besides his wife, Betty, Jim was preceded in death by his parent; brothers, William, Robert and Kenneth Shambarger; and sister, Helen Shambarger.

Family and friends may visit Friday, June 19th from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora (419.644.3601), where funeral services will be held Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Michael Dunson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Amboy Township Cemetery.

Funeral Service: Friday, June 19th at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home

Interment at a later date: Amboy Township Cemetery
