James P. Manning

James P. Manning, age 67, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, following recent heart bypass surgery. He was born July 8, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio, to Parker G. and Dorothy (Seavolt) Manning. Jim grew up in Toledo and was a 1965 graduate of Whitmer High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. On April 15, 1972, he married his beloved wife, Jan Redding.

Jim worked as a drywall finisher and was a member of the Plasterer's Union, retiring in 2000. He was a lifelong member of the NRA.

Jim had a love for horses and was a horse showman. He also restored and owned over 60 Chevelles during his life time. He had a passion for drag racing, fishing, raising livestock, and going to flea markets and garage sales looking for bargains.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 43 years, Jan; son, Luke (Susan) Manning; grandchildren, Macy and Evan Manning; and brother, Thomas Manning.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Parker and Dorothy, and by his brother, Paul Manning.

Family and friends may visit Tuesday, May 19th from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Swanton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Association.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 20th at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home

Interment: Swanton Cemetery
