James Sherman Hallett, age 75, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, Tuesday morning, January 20, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 25, 1933 in Swanton to Lawrence J. and Louise (Poss) Hallett.
James was a 1951 graduate of Swanton High School, and attended Bowling Green State University. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Leyte, USS Midway, and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
James worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources from the mid 60’s to late 70’s as a real estate agent, acquiring land for the state of Ohio. He worked with his father, Lawrence, in the real estate business throughout northwest Ohio until retiring in 2005.
He was a member of the Ohio State Realtors Association, member of St. Richard Catholic Parish, and Swanton American Legion Post #479. He previously served as zoning inspector for the Village of Swanton. James was a member and past-president of Valleywood Golf Club, where he had 2 hole-in-ones and awarded flight champion.
James loved fishing trips with his brothers and friends to Canada and Florida. He had an inseparable bond with his family, brothers, and friends.
James is survived by his brothers, Gerard (Elaine) Hallett of Swanton, OH and Richard (Barbara) Hallett of Bryan, OH; sister-in-law, Velma Hallett of Swanton, OH, and was dearly loved by his numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Louise Hallett; sisters, Peggy Friel and Rita Hallett, and brothers, Terrence, Lawrence, Jr. and Gerald Hallett.
Friends and family may visit Thursday, January 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church in Swanton, with Fr. Robert Holden officiating. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Richard Parish organ fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
