Jack C. Silcox

Jack C. Silcox, age 82, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, August 7, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. He was born September 15, 1931 in Norton, Virginia to Carroll, Sr. and Ethel (Flanary) Silcox. He was a 1950 graduate of Walbridge High School, and was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict. On February 25, 1956, he married his beloved wife, Joan Saunders.

Jack worked as a railroad brakeman/conductor for New York Central, Penn Central, and ConRail, retiring in 1992 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Maumee and Whitehouse American Legion Post #384. Jack's hobbies included tending to his salt water fish tanks, as well as his exotic plants and flowers in his greenhouse. He was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan; son, Mark (Sheree) Silcox; daughter, Jennifer (Abe) Buckenmeyer; grandchildren, Amy (Jesse) Bates, Aaron (Megumi) Buckenmeyer, and Heather Buckenmeyer; great-grandchildren, Liam and Shea Buckenmeyer; sister, Sandra Piatt; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Shafter and Elaine Saunders; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Carroll, Jr.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 11th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2250 S. Holland-Sylvania Rd, in Maumee, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Timothy Nass officiating. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the wonderful care they provided Jack the past month of his life.

Funeral Services: Monday, August 11, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m.

Interment: Leininger Cemetery, Pettisville, Ohio
