Isabell Lucille Spengler

Isabell Lucille Spengler, age 90, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Christmas morning, December 25, 2013, following a brief illness, at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born April 9, 1923 in Archbold, Ohio to John and Helen (Krieger) Dominique. She married Wayne Spengler on December 31, 1949, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1994.

Isabell retired from Clevite-Harris in Napoleon and was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish in Swanton. Isabell served as past president of the Swanton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she was a member for several years, and was also a member of the Delta Fraternal Order of Eagles. Isabell enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and trying her luck at the casino with friends. She was also known to play the accordion on occasion.

She loved being around her family friends and will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory are her children, John (Sandy) Spengler, Jacqueline (Don) Bettinger, and Stephen Spengler; 6 grandchildren, Kristen (Phil) Rupp, Jeanette (Jim) Smith, Renee (Matt) Myers, Scott (Lisa) Bettinger, Chad (Kristi) Bettinger, and Karla (John) Fisher; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank (Janet) Dominique.

Besides her husband, Wayne; Isabell was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Gregory; son, Danny; sisters, Cindy Miller and Betty Mignin; brothers, Louis and Dale Dominique; and baby boy Bettinger.

Family and friends may visit Monday, December 30th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 31st at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Father Al Ceranowski presiding. Interment will follow at Swanton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Swanton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Gideons International – Fulton County Camp, or Masses at St. Richard Church.
