Hugh S. Sanderson

Hugh S. Sanderson, age 89, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, June 11, 2013. He was born January 12, 1924 in Berkey, Ohio to Ford T. and Joyce (Woodward) Sanderson. He served in the United States Army during WWII, and on July 29, 1950 married his loving wife, Mary Lou Stephenson.

Hugh worked 38 years for the United Telephone Company, retiring in 1983. He was associated with the Cub and Boy Scouts for many years, and loved spending time with family and friends.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou; children, Janice Earle, Stephen (Connie) Sanderson, Kay (Wayne) Putnam; grandchildren, Brian Gillen, Becky (Kit) Bassett, Kevin Gillen, Kristen Gillen, Jamie Putnam, Holly Putnam, Sarah (Ryan) Hartman, and Myra Sanderson; great-grandchildren, Jacob Armstrong, Kendra Bassett, and Samuel Hartman; sister, Erma Baker; and 5 nieces and nephews.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ross A. Sanderson; brothers, George, Wade, and Ford T. Sanderson; and son-in-law, Loyd Earle.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, June 13th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora (419.644.3601). Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14th at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Metamora Fire & Rescue.
