Howard D. Slemp, age 80, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 2, 1935 in Saltville, Virginia to Howard Guy and Emma Mae (Tomlinson) Slemp. He graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Virginia in 1954. Howard enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On November 8, 1955, he married his beloved wife, Dorothy Lee Stukey. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2012.
Howard worked and retired from the Campbell Soup Company as a plant journeyman mechanic. He enjoyed tinkering, photography, gun collecting, reloading ammunition, amateur radio (N8VHX), and feeding the ducks at Oak Openings.
Howard is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Mayberry of Sterling Heights, MI and Linda (George) Timpe of Delta, OH; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Alicia) Ritzenthaler, Samantha (Josh) Humberger, Jonathan (RayLynn) Harter, Brian (Robin) Timpe, Daniel (Kay) Timpe, Caitlin Harter and Jennifer (Ed) Hilliard; great-grandchildren, Trinity, Brook, Summer, Amanda, AvaLynn, Caleb, Nevaeh, Antonia, Ethan, Josiah, Mikayla and Autumn.
Besides his parents, Howard and Emma Mae, and his loving wife, Dorothy, Howard was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1st from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Services celebrating his life will be held Thursday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
