Herman Robert Ott

Herman Robert Ott, a lifelong farmer, age 90, of Berkey, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Monday evening, July 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 13, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to Louis and Matilda (Eisel) Ott. Herman was a graduate of Metamora High School and on October 26, 1946, married the love of his life, Wanda Mae Leist. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2007.

Herman was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish at Richfield Center and the Farm Bureau Association. He was a big supporter at his children and grandchildren’s athletic events, and enjoyed toting his grandchildren around the farm on the tractor. Herman loved his sweets, especially pastries, pies, and Pepsi. He also loved betting at the horse races, traveling to Las Vegas and trying his luck at the casinos, and playing euchre with his family. He will be remembered as a hardworking and devoted husband, father, grandfather and neighbor.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mark (Jan) Ott, Curt Ott, and Gloria (Dan) Chadwick; daughter-in-law, Debbie Ott; grandchildren, Amanda Ott, Christopher Ott, Joelle (Joseph) Castillo, Kyle (Lesley) Ott, Lauren Ott, Mitchell Ott, Kiley Ott, Ben (Angela) Ott, Cassie Ott, and Chelsea and Megan Chadwick; great-grandchildren, Landon, Riley, Lane, Karyssa, and Ainsley; sisters, Margie (John) Haupricht, Kathleen (Jim) Kasch, Alice Patteuw, and Mary Mitchey-Bettinger; sisters-in-law, Monica, Rosemary and Marilyn Ott; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Wanda, Herman was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger; brothers, Ray, Karl, Harvey, Paul, and infant brother, William James Ott; and sisters, Imelda Huskins, Edna Oancea, and Ann Barton.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, July 14th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora, Ohio, where a Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15th in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption, with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

The family extends a special thank you to Herman’s wonderful friends, neighbors, and sister-in-law, Rosie for their support over the past several years. Also to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Dr. Fadhil Hussein for the wonderful care they provided him.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
