Hal R. Stine, age 78, of Delta, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the home he built, surrounded by his loving family, Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2015. Hal was born January 18, 1937 in Delta to the late Everett C. and Bertha (McLaughlin) Stine. Hal was a 1955 graduate of Adrian High School, and joined the United States Army where he held the rank of Sergeant. Hal worked for American Chain & Cable, American Fabricraft, Fulton Industries, and retired in 2000 from R&R Plastics. Hal also served as a Fulton County Deputy Sheriff, Swanton Police Officer, and served on the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Hal was very involved in the communities where he lived and worked, serving as past-president of the Delta Rotary Club, Swanton Area Chamber of Commerce, and the National Campers and Hikers Association. He was also a master lifetime member of the Handyman Club of America. When he wasn't camping or building homes, you could find him bowling, golfing, or out in his woodworking shop building birdhouses and bird feeders. He and his wife, Mary also enjoyed square dancing, and were members of the Shirts & Skirts.
Hal was very proud of his family. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary (Slawinski) Stine; his children, Connie (Stephen) Sanderson, Cathy (Joe) McMillin, Gary (Raydene) Stine, Greg Stine, CarrieJo Mull, Candi (Jim) Rains, and Jeffrey (Kaycee) Stine; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Norma Jeanne Slawinski.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Bertha; brothers, Robert E. Stine and Donald L. Stine; and father-in-law, Richard Slawinski.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, March 25th from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Tom Bates officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.
