Gregory Paul Geer

Gregory Paul Geer, age 65, a well respected teacher and funeral director, died Saturday evening, October 22, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, due to complications from a recent stroke. He was born July 12, 1946 in Wauseon, Ohio to Paul Irwin and Elaine Margaret (Hallock) Geer. On August 20, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Cheryl Becker. He obtained his BS degree in Education and taught at Evergreen Local Schools and St. Hedwig’s Catholic School. In 1986, he obtained his funeral director’s license and worked at several family owned funeral homes in and around the Toledo area.

Greg was a member of the Metamora United Methodist Church, 32-year member of the Metamora-Amboy Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Wauseon F.&A.M. Lodge #0349, and O.E.S. Fulton Chapter #67.

Greg had a great passion for teaching and would always find time for a “teaching moment”. He loved public speaking and was known for reciting “Ragged Old Flag” during special events in the area. Most of all, Greg cherished his time with his grandchildren - whether it was flying kites, sledding in the snow, or walking the beach skipping stones.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 45 years, Cheryl; his three sons, Brian (Tamara) Geer, Bradley (Tiffany) Geer, and Brent (Jessica) Geer; his seven grandchildren: Lauren, Brianna, Elizabeth, Tommy, Becca, Samantha, and Andrew a.k.a ‘Tank’; his siblings, Jeff Geer, Gretchen Dussel, Heidi (Jon) Leiendecker, and Rod (Cecelia) Geer; his aunt: Frances (Geer) Riker; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; AND, of course, the Group.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, October 27th from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora (419.644.3601) where a Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Fireman’s Last Alarm service at 7:30 p.m.. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Terry Powell officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Metamora-Amboy Volunteer Fire Dept. or Metamora United Methodist Church–Children’s Program Fund.
