Grace Ellen Johnson

Calling Hours: Thursday, December 8th from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton

Grace Ellen Johnson, age 90, entered into rest, Monday afternoon, December 5, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Raymond and Eva Woodring born January 25, 1921. She graduated from Metamora High School and attended Ft. Wayne Business College, where she earned her Associate’s Degree in accounting. On November 24, 1963, she married Ralph Johnson. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2008.

She was a faithful member of Lytton United Church of Christ. She and her husband were very active with the youth group traveling on several mission trips throughout Europe. They helped maintain a couple Indian Reservations, installed wells in Africa, worked on pecan farms alongside former President Jimmy Carter – just to name a few. She was very active with local mission work as well - including Habitat for Humanity and the Farm Bureau. She and Ralph were major recyclers of newspaper, glass, tin and scrap metal. They also ran a thrift shop from their home. People from all over the area would bring in items. All the money generated was donated to missions around the world.

Grace is survived by her beloved children, Galen (Veronica) Krieger of Phoenix, AZ, Marilyn Jackson of Mauston, WI, Alvin (Rosemarie) Johnson of Delta, OH, Lois (Calvin) Bernholtz of Delta, OH, Karen Meyers of Wauseon, OH; 8 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Florence Salsberry and June Johnson; brother-in-law, Marvin Johnson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Ralph, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Roger Cruea; sisters, Mildred Spicer and Orpha Leupp; and sons-in-law, Jim Meyers and Wayne Jackson.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, December 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Visitation will continue Friday, December 9th from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lytton United Church of Christ, 12892 County Road 5 in Delta, where services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mary Burroughs officiating. Interment will follow at Dutch Ridge Cemetery.
