Grace L. Hansen, age 100, of Port Clinton, Ohio, formerly of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 in her home. She was born February 12, 1910 in Delta, Ohio, to Carl and Pearl (Perkins) Fashbaugh. In 1940 she married Allen Hansen, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1991.
Grace was a member of the Farm Bureau Council, 71-year member and Past Matron of Maree Chapter #126 O.E.S., and long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served as children’s choir director. After graduating from Bowling Green College, Grace taught Freshman English and Music at Fulton Union School for 4 years and at Lyons School for 3 years. She retired in 1972 from Swanton Schools after teaching Elementary Music for 13-1/2 years. Grace enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, reading, playing the piano and organ, and baking her sugar cookies – which were favorites among her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen Blizzard, Dwight (Bonnie) Hansen, Beth (Richard) Heilmann; grandchildren, Kathy (Geoff) Falter, Nicky (Tom) Rothmann, Jeffrey (Christy) Hansen, and Nate (Christine) Heilmann; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Hazel Schroeder.
Besides her husband, Allen, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, John, Tammy and Dennis; son-in-law, David; and sister, Helen Kmetovic.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, August 11th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral Services will be held Thursday afternoon, August 12th at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton, with Rev. Brian Haller officiating. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
