Grace R. Gillen

Grace R. Gillen, age 95, of Toledo, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Wednesday morning, December 3, 2014, at the Elizabeth Scott Community. She was born January 19, 1919 in New Bavaria, Ohio to Henry and Johanna (Swary) Dietrick. On January 19, 1939, she married Cletus Gillen. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1995.

Grace was a homemaker, and devoted mother to her eleven children. She was a long time parishioner of St. Richard Catholic Parish, and member of the Rosary & Altar Society. Grace's hobbies included playing cards and crocheting afghans for her family.

Grace will be greatly missed by her children, Barbara (David) Vrooman, Daniel (Mary) Gillen, Roger Gillen, Joseph (Nancy) Gillen, Gene (Sue) Gillen, Tom Gillen, Roy (Connie) Gillen, Timothy Gillen, Sue (Mark) Moser, Mark (Janet) Gillen and Jeffrey (Cindy) Gillen; 29 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband Cletus, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; 7 siblings; and 2 grandchildren, Richard Gillen and Scott Gillen.

Family and friends may visit Friday, December 5th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631), where the recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, December 6th, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Walter Tuscano presiding. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.
