Gerhard “Bob” Barthel, age 68, of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Monday evening, September 1, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare in Swanton. He was born June 9, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Herman and Marie Barthel. Bob served in the US Army. On September 16, 1961, he married Eleanor Dondarse. Bob owned and operated Mr. B’s Pastry in Swanton. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and loved bowling.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Eleanor; daughters, Juneann Barthel, Patricia (Robert) Karney; grandchildren, HeatherLynn, Crystal, and Ashlie Karney, Joey Barthel; great-grandson, Skyler Karney; brother, Henry (Rayanne) Barthel and good friend, Terry (Jeanie) Miller.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Herman, and sister, Marlene.

Friends and family may visit Friday, September 5th from 2 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419-826-2631), where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Saturday morning, September 6th at 10:00 am, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. Richard Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Fr. Frederick Snyder will officiate. Interment in St. Richard Memorial Garden will follow at a later date.
