Gerald "Jerry" Hines

Gerald “Jerry” Hines, age 91, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, December 14, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. He was born August 24, 1922 in Pike Township to George W. and Ethel (Geer) Hines. Jerry was a 1940 graduate of Delta High School, and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army-Air Force during WWII from 1942-1945. He was an aircraft mechanic performing inspections and maintenance on the P-47 “Thunderbolt”.

After returning from the service, he worked for Libbey-Owens as an aircraft mechanic. He married Margaret Roddy on February 8, 1951. Jerry left his work as a mechanic and retired as a bricklayer. He and his wife also owned and operated Swanton Auto Wash for 17-1/2 years.

Jerry was a member of Black Sheep Radio Control Club. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He also enjoyed restoring and driving his Model A and Model T.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret; niece, Carol (Warren) Murphy and their children, Amy and Sean. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Virginia Roddy; nieces, Randy Jean (James) Falor-Randle, Janet Falor, Barbara (Robert) Falor-Stewart, Stacey (Mike) Landwehr, Pam (Randy) Walz, Patricia (Frank) Ringler, and Carol (Shane) LesKowyak; and nephews, Ray (Sally) Roddy and Michael Dohm; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews; and special neighbors, Nancy Faber, Janet Faber-Wymer, and Sheri Millenbaugh.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clair Hines; sisters-in-law, LaVerne Hines, Lois Falor, and Rosetta Dohm; brothers-in-law, Randall and Stanley Roddy, Robert Falor and Fred Dohm.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December17th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18th, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
