Galard M. Arvin, age 86, of Swanton, Ohio; formerly of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 28, 2010, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born September 18, 1923 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to Charles W. and Sadie (Linden) Arvin. Galard was a WWII United States Army-Air Corp paratrooper, who served in England, France, Belgium and Germany. Following honorable discharge from the Army, he married the love of his life, Betty Wiskeman. He worked for US Steel at Christy Park and Irvin Works. Galard was a 50-year member of F&AM Youghiogheny Lodge No. 583 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and was a Scottish Rite Mason.
He was an avid reader, who kept track of the stock market daily. Galard was a sports car enthusiast and member of the Sports Car Club of America. He enjoyed horses and cattle.
Galard will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty; son, Chuck (Carol) Arvin; grandchildren, Chrissy Arvin and Cari (Ty) Langenderfer; and great-grandchildren, Ty and Cora Langenderfer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jess Arvin; and sister’s, Ida Brown and Alice Keagy.
The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the special caregivers at Ebeid Hospice for the wonderful care given to Gay.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8th at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Dravosburg United Methodist Church, or Ebeid Hospice.
