Ford “Jr” Sanderson, age 89, of Berkey, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 10, 1919 in Berkey to Ford T. and Joyce (Woodward) Sanderson. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII in Europe. On September 27, 1947, he married Agnes “Jean” Jankowski. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1995.
Jr was a self-employed carpenter and TV and radio repairman. After his retirement, he began repairing violins and eventually making them. He enjoyed playing his fiddles at the many contests and jam sessions in the area.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn “Sunny” Orman and Diane (Robert) Jessen; grandchildren, Tammy (Sam) Siemon, Michael (Tamara) Jessen, Renee and Adam Jessen; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Abbey Baker, and Dylan Jessen; sisters, Erma Clausen; brother, Hugh (Mary Lou) Sanderson, and special friend and companion, Beverly Toda.
Besides his wife, Jean, Jr was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and Wade Sanderson.
Jr’s family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care and support.
Friends and family may visit Friday, February 6th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Wolfinger Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
