Floyd W. Smith

Floyd W. Smith, 76, of Swanton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Perrysburg, OH, due to complications from Cancer and Pneumonia.

Floyd was born to Mary “Maxine” Vance and Paul Eugene Smith, March 29th 1937, in Swanton, Ohio, where he remained a lifelong resident. A Class of 55 graduate of Swanton High School, he soon after joined the National Guard, with whom he served for 6 years and learned to cook. He also Married his wife of 55 years, Anne Sell of Metamora and began to build his family.

He worked in various factories in the Toledo area, retiring after 24 years from the Ford Stamping Plant in Maumee, in 2000.

He always enjoyed taking his family camping, playing his guitar, Archery, Detroit Tigers Baseball, Ohio State Football, and supporting his kids in High School sports. He also enjoyed designing and building whatever came to mind, decorating the house inside and out for holidays, and there was always cooking and Blue Grass Music.

Floyd is survived by his wife Anne; daughter Sheila; sons, Raymond, Bennett his wife Marilou and Allen; grandchildren; Allyson, Jacob and Madison; sister Sharon Probst; niece Denise Haines; nephew Mike Haines his wife Kathy, and many Cousins.

A graveside service for the family is planned for Thursday, October 24th. A “Celebration of Floyd’s Life” is planned for Saturday, October 26th, at the Swanton Sports Center, 610 N. Main St., from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice Center of Perrysburg or any charity of your choice.
