Fern Marie Northcott, age 89, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away early Saturday morning, September 27, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare in Bryan, Ohio. She was born January 20, 1919, in Metamora, Ohio, to John B. and Mary (Smith) Scheuer. She graduated from Metamora High School and Tri-State Business College. On September 20, 1940, she married Gerald Northcott, and he preceded her in death on December 17, 1976.

Fern worked as a secretary for Owens-Illinois and for the accounts payable department at the Lions Store Westgate before retiring in 1985. She was a faithful founding member of Metamora Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Women’s Circle. She was also active in the American Red Cross.

Fern had a special loving interest in her grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers; crafting, especially making wreaths; and was always cooking.

She is survived by her children, Craig (Gail) Northcott, of Blissfield, MI, Patrick (April) Northcott, of Jasper, MI, and Cindy (John) McDonald, of Montpelier, OH; grandchildren, Tracy (Matt) Gritzmaker, Alex Northcott, Timothy (Meggie) Saddoris, and Ben Saddoris and nieces, JoAnn McKelvey and Sister Theresia Scheuer

Besides her husband Gerald, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Teresa Gerten, Bill Scheuer, Ed Scheuer, Elsie Billman and Etheldra Strunk.

Friends and family may visit Tuesday, September 30th, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at Metamora Faith Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jim Wicker will officiate. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.
