Eugene Edwin Blair, age 88, of Alton, Illinois, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 15, 2011, at his son’s home in Metamora, Ohio. He was born June 7, 1923, in Alton, Illinois, to Joseph and Annie (Abner) Blair.
Mr. Blair served in the United States Army-Air Corp and was a WWII fighter pilot and flight instructor. On January 26, 1943, he married Margaret Stamper. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1998.
Mr. Blair retired from Owens-Illinois as director of industrial engineering and corporate safety. His job allowed him to travel all over the world.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Robert (Judy) Blair of West Carrollton, OH and Richard (Patty) Blair of Metamora, OH; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Blair (Matt Addis) of Phoenix, AZ, Celena Blair of Toledo, OH, John (Sarah) Crockett of Metamora, OH, and Jack Crockett of Toledo, OH; and 3 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Zachary Addis and Bishop Blair.
Besides his wife, Margaret, he was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 brothers, Alvin, Mitchell, and Ronald Blair.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held Monday, December 19th at
11:00 a.m. at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, Illinois, with Rev. Charles West
officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local animal shelter.
