Edythe B. Petteys, 94, Bowling Green, formerly of Haskins, died on Tuesday evening, June 18, 2013 at Wood Haven Care Center. She was born on June 21, 1918, to Henry and Helen Hagemeister Rathbun of Perrysburg, Ohio. On July 3, 1936, Edythe married George A. Petteys in Bowling Green, Ohio. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1989.
Edythe graduated from Haskins High School in 1936. She worked at Sears and at Bowling Green State University dining services. She then worked 19 years at CainE¼s Potato Chip in Bowling Green, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, Ohio. Edythe and George spent many enjoyable years wintering in Florida.
Edythe was known in her family and friends for her baking especially pies and cookies. Family celebrations were not complete unless she brought chicken E»n noodles and beans. She crocheted and gave away over 30 afghans plus many baby afghans. She spent many hours tending canaries and parakeets in the 40E¼s. She especially loved her cockatiel, Charlie.
Edythe is survived by her sons: Rodney (Dolora) Petteys of Ponce Inlet, Florida; Thomas (Diane) Petteys of Bowling Green; S. James (Janet) Petteys of Honor, Michigan and David (Barbara) Petteys of Bowling Green; her daughter, Nancy (Raymond) Wright of Grand Rapids; her sister, Barbara Gunn of Perrysburg; 16 Grandchildren and their spouses; and 35 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Petteys, and her brothers, Charles, Robert and John Rathbun.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wood Haven Health Care for their excellent care of Mom during the past 15 months.
Family and friends may call at Dunn Funeral Home, 408 West Wooster Street; Bowling Green, Ohio on Friday, June 21 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 23019 Kellogg Road; Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 22, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Adrianne Meier officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Bowling Green.
Memorials may be given to Hosanna Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
