Edward B. Stone, affectionately known as Stoney, age 91, of Swanton, Ohio, died Thursday morning, May 24, 2012, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born December 19, 1920 in Franklindale, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of ’38.
Stoney was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force, and served as a radio operator mechanic during WWII. He married his beloved wife, Vivian Mays, who preceded him in death on May 27, 1999. He retired from IBM as a mechanical engineer.
Stoney was a Life Member of V.F.W. Swanton Memorial Post #8598, Swanton American Legion Post #479, and Delta Eagles Lodge #2597. Last year, he visited the WWII Memorial in Washington DC, thanks to Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed golfing at White Pines up until the age of 89. He was proud of his hole-in-one shot in 1966.
Stoney is survived by his stepson, James (Patricia) Van Order; grandson, Casey (Kelly) Van Order; granddaughters, Valerie Persinger and Natalie (Nick) Palleta; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Duane; and special friend, Mary Kusz.
Family and friends my visit Tuesday, May 29th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
