Edward V. Shane

Edward V. Shane, age 84, of Berkey, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, April 12, 2015, at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center. He was born April 2, 1931 in Cygnet, Ohio to the late William Verle and Katherine (Slaughterbeck) Shane. Ed was a 1948 graduate of Sylvania Burnham High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. On April 7, 1956, he married the love of his life, Phyllis L. Schultz.

Ed worked as a plumber and steamfitter for Local #50 until his retirement. He was past president and life member of the Adams Conservation Club, member of the American Legion Joseph W. Diehn Post #468, Sylvania Moose Lodge #1579, and the Toledo area Miata Club for several years. Ed's hobbies included competitive target shooting, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He and his wife, Phyllis, enjoyed traveling cross country in their RV and going as far west as Alaska.

Ed will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, love of music (especially jazz), and animated storytelling of his life experiences. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 59 years, Phyllis; sons, Matthew Shane of Curtis, OH and Bruce (Karen) Shane of Delta, OH; granddaughters, Sarah Bradish and Katie Shane; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and David Bradish; his brother, Richard (Donna) Shane; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, April 16th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Interment will be private.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center for their wonderful care and compassion.
