Edna M. Simon, age 87, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2011 at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center. She was born May 31, 1923 in Assumption, Ohio to Frank C. and Florence (Mossing) Simon. Edna worked for many years as a secretary at Davis Paper Box Company in Toledo until it closed. She retired from Toledo Hospital in 1988 where she worked in Medical Records.

Edna was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish in Swanton. She loved to play cards and Bingo, and try her luck at the Casinos. She was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Pistons fan, and loved taking her nieces and nephews to watch the Tigers play.

She is survived by her sister, Donna Gearig of Swanton, OH; sister-in-law Jean Simon of Metamora, OH; brother-in-law, Thomas McGhee of Swanton, OH; as well as many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Simon, Wilma Simon, Norma McGhee, and Ihla Simon; brother, Malcolm Simon; and brother-in-law, Earl Gearig.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.. Prayers will begin in the funeral home Wednesday morning, April 27th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, with Fr. Daniel J. Zak officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Richard’s Church, Holy Trinity Church in Assumption, or Swanton Health Care Recreation Fund.
