Edith Niederhouse, age 98, of Swanton, Ohio, and longtime resident of Monclova, Ohio, passed away early Sunday morning, January 4, 2009 at Swanton Valley Care & Rehabilitation; formerly Harborside of Swanton. She was born November 18, 1910 in Cairo, Ohio to the late Jess and Mary (States) Vance. On January 24, 1947, she married Glen S. Niederhouse. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Edith worked at Dolly and Joe’s as a cook in her early years. She loved making beautiful quilts for family and friends. Edith was a member of the Eastern Stars, Swanton American Legion Auxiliary #479, VFW Swanton Memorial Post #8598, and lifetime member of the Delta Eagles.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Felix) Stewart; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Smith; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her son, Howard E. Smith and daughter, Vicky S. Huber.
Friends and family may visit Monday, January 5th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Roth Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Swanton Valley Care & Rehabilitation and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the wonderful care they provided to Edith.
