Doris Jean Vaughan

Doris Jean Vaughan, age 87, passed on April 1, 2013 while under the care of Swanton Health Care Nursing Home and Promedica Hospice. Doris had been a resident of Swanton Health Care for 3 ½ years.

Doris was born and raised in Delta, Ohio, and graduated from Delta High School in 1943. She worked at The Swanton Elevator for several years before moving to the Eastern coast and started working at Spiegel Stores in middle management.

Doris’s life changed dramatically when she married for the first time in her early 50’s to a farmer named Ralph Vaughan of Delta, Ohio. Ralph and Doris were married 25 years prior to his passing. At the time of her marriage, Doris became “Mother” to Connie Darling of Toledo, Ohio, Janet (David) Hines of Delta, Ohio and Bill (Jane) Vaughan of Delta, Ohio. Doris was also “Grandma” to Joe (Tina) Hines of Delta, Ohio, Jim (Danielle) Darling of Toledo, Ohio, Molly (Jason) Mueller of Sylvania, Ohio, Matt (Nina) Vaughan of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Lindsay (Jack) Allen, Eric Vaughan and Austin Gunn, all of Delta, Ohio . Doris was “Great Grandma” for eight children.

Doris and Ralph had many happy years together and enjoyed traveling the United States, spending time with family, friends and Ralph‘s shipmates of the USS LST 582. She was the oldest living member of Pythian Sisters, Faithful Temple #250.

Doris was an only child and was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; son-in-law, Dennis Darling; granddaughters, Jennifer Reyome and Kelly Darling.

Friend and Family may visit Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut Street, Swanton, Ohio (419-826-2631), where the funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Fulton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fulton Union Church, County Road HJ, Delta, Ohio, 43515.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staffs of Swanton Health Care and Promedica Hospice for their wonderful care and support during some difficult times.

Funeral Service: Sunday, April 7th at 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home
