Donald E. Whalen

Donald Emerson Whalen, age 87, of Archbold, Ohio, died peacefully, late Thursday evening, January 24, 2013 at Fulton Manor in Wauseon. He was born April 6, 1925 in Swanton, Ohio to the late Charles and Viola (Woodruff) Whalen. On February 11, 1963, he married Marcella Fleming. Donald worked for The Andersons - Grain Division in Maumee for 26 years, before retiring in 1984.

Donald was a member of Rock of Ages Church in Defiance, Ohio and loved southern gospel music. He enjoyed hunting and raising steer.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 49 years, Marcella; daughters, Linda (Jerry) Silver, Peggy (Stan) Hepworth , Donna (Bruce) Jackowski, and Deana Konig; son, Dale ( Theresa) Whalen; 7 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and 8 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 28th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29th at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Robert Dean officiating. Interment will follow at South Swanton Cemetery.
