Donald T. "Joe" Sullivan

Donald Thomas Sullivan, “Joe”, age 79, of Metamora, Ohio, died Tuesday morning, October 23, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born November 13, 1932 in Amboy Township to the late Joseph and Katherine (O’Neil) Sullivan. Joe was a veteran of the Korean War and a founding member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 306 in Assumption. After his military service, Joe returned to the area and began a 37-year career as the owner/operator of Joe’s Tavern in Metamora, Ohio. A life-long sports fan, Joe enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren play sports and was a devoted fan of Evergreen athletics for over 40 years. Besides sports, Joe enjoyed playing pinochle with “the boys” at his former business and was an avid reader. Joe was also a member of the Metamora Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years.

Joe is survived by his three sons, Thomas (Tina) Sullivan of Metamora, OH, Terry (Molly) Sullivan of Napoleon, MI, and Gary (Michelle) Sullivan of Blissfield, MI; and his long-time special companion, Marlene Snyder of Metamora. Joe will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Haley, Heath, Alex, Hunter, Ben and Kendall. Also surviving is his brother, Charles (Barb) Sullivan of Toledo, OH and sister, Regina (Frank) Bruckner of Carlton, MI.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Peggy; brothers, Bernard Loeffler and Paul Sullivan; and sister, Veronica Sloan.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, October 25th from 2 to 8:30 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora (419.644.3601), where a Fireman’s Last Alarm service will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by CWV military rites. Services celebrating Joe’s life will be held Friday, October 26th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Per Joe’s request, his body was donated to UTMC for anatomical research.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic War Veterans Post 306 in Assumption.
