Interment with Military Rites: Amboy Township Cemetery

Donald E. Burroughs, age 89, of Homer, Michigan, formerly of Gaylord, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s residence, with his loving family at his bedside, Sunday morning, June 14, 2015. He was born July 16, 1925 in Lyons, Ohio to James “Bae” and Mildred (Hartel) Burroughs. Donald served his Country proudly in the United States Army and was a WWII Veteran.

Donald was President of Union Steel in Arizona and worked as a subcontractor for Tri Core Oil Company. When he wasn’t working, you could find him at the Casinos playing poker and trying his luck at the slots. He loved garage sales, fishing and camping, and was known in the community to find whatever it was you needed or wanted.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted daughter and caretaker, Mary Johnson; sons, Carl Burroughs, Donald John (Cindy) Burroughs, Daniel (Patty) Burroughs, and Randy (Leslie) Burroughs; daughter-in-law, Maria Paddila; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Carleton, Clayton, Wayne, Claribel, Kolbe and Eldon; and son-in-law, Donald Johnson II.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 22nd from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora, Ohio, where funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Tyler Kleeberger officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
