Dolores M. Mika, age 78, of Lyons, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 29, 2010, at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. She was born November 13, 1931 in Wauseon, Ohio to Edward and Lucille Swartz.
She was married to Jerry Sanford in 1948. Together they had four sons who they loved deeply. Their son Michael was called to the Lord at age 5. Dolores lovingly cared for not only Michael, but also Jerry during his courageous battle with cancer ending in 1972.
Dolores found love again with her second husband, Charles Mika and enjoyed thirty years of happiness. Charles and Dolores were married on August 29, 1980. With this new beginning, they built a rich, joyous life with their blended family of seven children.
Dolores will be remembered as a creative, resilient, and loving woman. She enjoyed painting, gardening, vacationing in Florida, playing cards with friends, and cooking for her family. Dolores was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Catholic War Veterans Post #306 Ladies Auxiliary in Assumption, Lyons VFW Post #7574 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie, brother, Ed Swartz (Joyce), sons, Scott Sanford (Carol), Chris Sanford (Patti), Ken (Julie), Anthony Mika, daughters, Carol Iott (Jim), Cathy Kauffman (Bob), Christy LePitre (Bob), grandchildren, Julianne Reinhart (Nate), Jeff Sanford, Jana Serna (Tony), Danielle Sanford, Michael Sanford, Nathaniel Iott, Emily Iott, Joseph LePitre, Lauren Iott, Kendra Sanford, Isabelle LePitre, Kaden Sanford, Konner Sanford, great-grandchildren, Benjamin Haselhuhn, and Noah Haselhuhn
Friends and family may visit Tuesday, June 1st from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Ladies Auxiliary Service. Prayers will begin in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2nd, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Interment will follow at Lyons Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebeid Hospice Residence of Sylvania or Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, Ohio.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the 5th and 6th floor nurses of Flower Hospital, the Oncology departments of the Hickman Center and the staff at Ebeid for their loving care. Additional thanks to all family and friends for the abundant cards, calls, and support, especially Father Ron Schock and Sister Joy Barker for their continuous spiritual guidance.
