Dennis Dickens, age 85, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born May 15, 1929 in Arnett West Virginia to Leonard and Myrtle
(Cook) Dickens. Dennis served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Margaret H. Navarre, and she preceded him in death on September 1, 2011.
Prior to moving to Swanton and starting his family, he worked in the coal mines in West Virginia. He was a truck driver for 35 years, retiring from Chrysler. He enjoyed fishing and traveling in his motor home with his late wife, Margaret. Dennis was proud to have purchased and continued to immaculately maintain his 1963 Thunderbird and 1972 Ford. His latest project was restoring a 1939 Pontiac with his son, Glenn.
Dennis is survived by his sons, Glenn Dickens and Doug (Linda) Dickens; grandchildren, Katelyn, Emily and Jacob Dickens, Jennifer Dickens-Murray, and Eric, Scott and Cory Dickens; sisters, Phyllis Peters, Delila Pettry, and Imojean Cantley; brother, Clint (Margaret) Dickens; and his best canine friend, Babe.
Besides his wife, Margaret, Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Arizona Sutton and Virginia Massey; and brothers, Dempsey and Luther.
Family and friends may visit Monday, August 4th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
