Dennis A. Butler, age 64, of Curtice, Ohio, formerly of Swanton, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, July 8, 2010, at Bay Park Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He was born October 8, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to Cleo M. and Winona (Ridenour) Butler. Dennis graduated from Bowsher High School in 1963. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. Following honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Dennis continued to live his life with honor, courage, and commitment – values that define a Marine. He attended The University of Toledo and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Dennis was employed at Haughton Elevator and later served as treasurer of Swanton Local Schools as well as Oregon City Schools, before retiring. He currently worked part-time as treasurer of IMANI Learning Academy. Dennis was a member of Swanton American Legion Post #479.
Dennis lived his life by the Marine Corps motto: Semper Fi (Always Faithful). He was a very caring and loving man and devoted his time traveling with his wife, Rose, helping his children, and entertaining and caring for his grandchildren. When he wasn’t with his family, you could find him on the golf course.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Rose; children, Eric (Stacy) Butler and Brooke Butler; stepchildren, Chad (Carah) Faber and Nicole (Jeremiah) Curtis; grandchildren, Grace, Faith and Christian Butler, Doren Chinni, Hanah and Alexa Faber, and Kaden and Kinley Curtis; brother-in-law, Walt (Gloria) Phillips; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Ellen Phillips.
Family and friends may visit Sunday, July 11th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Services celebrating Dennis’ life will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday, July 12th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brian Haller officiating. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the MS Society.
