Deborah L. LaPlant, age 62, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away as the result of a sudden heart attack, Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, with her entire family at her bedside. She was born August 30, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to Lynn and Mamie (Masssengill) Cox. On December 22, 1979, she married her beloved husband, Paul D. LaPlant, Sr.. Deborah worked as a receptionist for The Pilliod Cabinet Company and as a dietary manager at the Lutheran Old Folks' Home in Oregon.
Deborah enjoyed bowling, playing Bunko, and trying her luck playing the slots at the casino. She was also an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 35 years, Paul; children, Jennifer (Todd) Drenning, Jeannine Burgess, and Paul, Jr. (Brandy) LaPlant; grandchildren, Jessica Drenning, Michael Drenning, Jacob Smith, and Megan Drenning; great-grandchild, Breah Connor; siblings, Robert Williams, Sandy (Will) Govan, Sue (Andy) Foote, Sharon Williams, Paula Williams, Dawn Cox and Bill Cox; sister-in-law, Pat (Ray) Silva; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and her loving four-legged companion, Toby.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Mamie Cox, and father and mother-in-law, Paul T. and Stella LaPlant.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, February 18th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Visitation will continue Thursday, February 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, where services celebrating Deborah's life will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or Swanton Fire & Rescue.
