David Lee Hensel, Sr., age 82 of Swanton, Ohio, passed peacefully, Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Swanton Valley Care & Rehabilitation. He was born April 22, 1932 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to Erwin J. and Mary E. (Brooks) Hensel. David joined the Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict as a B-29 radio operator. He later joined the Civil Air Patrol and was proud recipient of the Meritorious Service Award for saving two lives. David had a passion for flying and truck driving. Since the age of 17 he drove truck. He was a professional semi truck driver for 57 years.
David resided in Aurora, Colorado for 25 years, before moving to Swanton, Ohio 16 years ago to be closer to family. During that time, he joined Christ Presbyterian Church in Toledo, where he remained an active member.
David is survived by his children, David Karl (Lin) Hensel, Christine Wisor, Patricia (Steve) Stahlke, David Lee, Jr. (Christina) Hensel, Lisa Monette, and Shaintell Hansel; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy H. Hensel; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
A Memorial Service celebrating David's Life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, with Pastor Kris Schondelmeyer officiating.
