David Alan Gillen

Calling Hours:Sunday, October 2nd from 2 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora

David Alan Gillen, age 48, of Delta, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, late Thursday evening, September 29, 2011 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 14, 1963 in Toledo, Ohio to Gale and Jane (Vandenbusche) Gillen. He was a 1981 graduate of Evergreen High School and member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption. On February 26, 2000, he married his loving wife, Candy Ashenfelter.

David had a passion for farming and also worked as a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer. He enjoyed participating in mini-tractor pulling competitions and combine demolition derbies at the Fulton County Fair, and was very involved with his kids as a 4-H Advisor. He also was an avid hunter and Harley-Davidson enthusiast.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Candy; sons, Justin and Logan Gillen; daughter, Cylee Gillen; mother, Jane Gillen; brothers, Jeff (Michelle) Gillen and Scott (Jennifer) Gillen; sister, Sandy (Bob) Gergich; mother-in-law, Connie Ashenfelter; father-in-law, Gary Ashenfelter; brother-in-law, David Ashenfelter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father, Gale; paternal grandparents, Murf and Bea Gillen; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Lucille Vandenbusche.

Friends and family may visit Sunday, October 2nd from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora, Ohio, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m.. Visitation will continue Monday, October 3rd from 9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Church.
